Wow! I apologize to those who actually read my blog for my lack of postings lately!
Okay so here's a few updates:
I am still enjoying my job at Moose Jaw Alliance Church as their Music and Worship Director. Sometimes it's a rough ride, but I have learned A LOT and I really feel like I have come a long way in a lot of life issues.
We decided that it wasn't working out to keep our puppy, Maia. So before Christmas we gave her to a retired lady in town who has another shih tzu, "Nemo", who is almost a year to the day older than Maia. I visited her on February 12 (her 1st birthday!) and she is doing very well. Phyllis loves her and takes very good care of her. She knew who I was when I came to the door and when I left it seemed as though she was ready to come back home with me. As much as I would have liked to scoop her up and take her home, I didn't. Graham didn't really get along very well with her and she would just sit by the door all day and wait for me to come home. It just wasn't a good situation and I found myself taking sides, as weird as that sounds. So it was the best thing for us to say goodbye to her. I do miss her, but eventually we will get another dog, one that Graham will be happy with too.
Graham and I went on holidays in January. We went to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. It was SO much fun! I will tell some stories a little later in this blog post.
Graham started school on February 2nd at SIAST for the Pre-Employment Electrician Program. He's enjoying it so far and is regularly coming home and telling me about all the things that he has learned. He scored a 91 on his first exam, so he has been very successful so far. The Lord has provided much more than we could have asked for. Graham's tuition was paid for by the government because he was on Employment Insurance after he was laid off in December. They paid for all of his tuition and fees and are also allowing him to stay on EI while he's at school. So amazing!
So I think that's about everything of significance that has happened lately.
So about our trip! We left on January 22 and were supposed to land in Puerto Plata at 4:30pm local time. We could not land due to low clouds and rain so they re-routed us to La Romana (on the south end of the island) in hopes that we could wait it out and then fly up to Puerto Plata that evening (on the north end of the island). So we waited and waited, but we were unable to fly that evening. So they put us up in a resort an hour and a half away from the hotel. We didn't get there until 11pm and had enough time to grab a couple drinks, dip our feet in the ocean and go to bed. We got up at 5am the next morning to get back on the bus at 6am and head back to the airport in La Romana. We checked in and were supposed to leave at 8:30am but still the Puerto Plata airport was closed. So we waited and waited for a while longer. By about 1:00pm we were on the plane again to land in Santo Domingo (the capital city - and only a 15 minute plane ride) and then bus us up to Puerto Plata from there. We landed in Santo Domingo and amidst all the chaos, we got our bags and got on a bus. They told us it would be about a 3 hour bus ride, which turned into 6.5 hours! OY! So we got to the Puerto Plata airport at about 9:00 and once we got on the right bus and got to our resort it was like 9:45. So we checked in quickly, grabbed a quick bite before the buffet closed and then went to our room... which was not what we had paid for! OY! We decided we would deal with it the next day, and we spent most of the afternoon trying to get our room switched to where we were supposed to be. We had upgraded to the Prestige Class and we had walked by those buildings the morning after we arrived, so we knew we were not in the right place! Anyway, by supper time on Saturday we were finally in the room where we were supposed to be! After that the rest of the trip was awesome! We went to Ocean World and saw dolphins, sea lions, sharks and sting rays. We also went on a jeep safari tour of the countryside where we visited a family's home, drank coffee and hot chocolate with them, saw how they make cigars (we smoked a little too!), went horseback riding, and all sorts of stuff! Then we went quading which was basically like off-roading because it was in lots of mud and big puddles. It was so much fun! I'm usually not one for getting dirty, but man this was so fun! I definitely want to do that again when we go back. Cause we are going back!
The food was great, the people were wonderful, and it was just such a good experience. I don't even mind the fact that we were so delayed getting to our hotel. We got to see so much more of the island because we drove right through the middle of the capital city and all the way up to the north end of the island. It was long and sometimes boring, but it was a good experience.
Well that's all I'll write for now. Hopefully I will keep this up a little more in the months to come!
Ciao.
